• You can't get to "happily ever after" by standing in the same place.  Steps need to be taken.

04/8/02 6:17pm

February 2002
02/27/02 8:04am
• Over my head.

02/25/02 2:46pm
• One of the most important things to do if you end up falling off of your motorcycle and sliding down the tarmac is to wait a few moments before you try to get up.  Very often riders try to get up while they are still sliding and end up tumbling....It's almost always better to finish falling down before you get up.

02/23/02 9:25pm
• You can't have everything.  If it's going good in one area, it's going to be bad in another...

/22/02 10:48pm
•
Maybe I was just waiting for you to ask!
• Happy Birthday, Gumby!
• !

02/20/02 11:28am
• Just because the glass is half empty, doesn't mean you can't savor the flavor.

02/18/02 1:32am
• Nothing good can come from this....
• Life seems to be an never ending run of endless circles.  History repeats itself over and over, yet the best we can hope for is just to learn a little bit about the sorted past.  And for all these tidbits of seemingly useful knowledge that we file away...when is the time it is all put it all to use?  When have we learned enough...to break just one of the vicious cycles that washing machine of life runs us though?
• On that note are we running though endless cycles of dirty to clean and back again? Or are we just waiting for the day that we're lucky enough to make it through that one rinse cycle where all the dirt is washed away and we're finally clean?  You think that might be nice, but just remember, once your are clean, you gotta get dry.  That's a whole 'nother story.
• Oh the melodrama of it all!  This is what happens when there's no Franken Berry in the house. (That's a hint Jilli)
• T-30 to Elaine's Birthday. And yes, she's still alive and well...despite her attempts to communicate otherwise!

02/16/02 5:44pm
• It's a big world out there.  Anything can happen.

02/15/02 8:42pm
• Sometimes stitches just don't do the job.
• Today I am a million years old.

02/13/02 11:36pm
• When I was in high school I had a friend that was going through a "pyro" stage. One day, after slaving over a vat of home made napalm, he decides it is time for "us" to test it out.  Figuring that the driveway was the safest place to try it (concrete generally doesn't burn out of control) he lights the concoction and throws it at the middle of the driveway. The stuff spreads out everywhere - fire sticking to wherever it landed.  As luck would have it my buddy’s old man just happens to pull into the driveway.  We were pretty much convinced that the "beating to end all beatings" was to commence shortly.  His old man slowly gets out of his car and studies the blazing inferno.  After a minute he looks up to my buddy and says, as if he could really care less, "Clean it up".  He turns and walks into the house.  As we immediately put the fire out, were surprised that he didn't go ballistic on us. For years we would laugh thinking of how we figured his old man was going to kill us. Many years later I wonder if it was just his old man was having a bad day and simply didn't have the energy to punish him or if he worried that he might have to sleep with one eye open after punishing a kid that was fascinated by the idea of seeing things burst into flame.

02/10/02 1:36am
• I was going to type some long tirade about the end of innocence, but I'm just to tired right now.....

02/07/02 10:06pm
• Tick Tock. Tick Tock. Tick Tock
• Well one of us was relieved...

02/06/02 4:46pm (fin-this is for SG)
• I think the war is over and Dave has won, LB.

• Well, maybe not this time...

02/04/02 9:46pm
• Small Toe. Big Hurt.
• Five more stitches to add the collection.  Ouch.  And I promised no more blood and gore pictures.  Wait, that was a few years ago.  You know where they are. (The pictures were really Pat's idea)

02/02/02 10:04pm
• Another interesting date.
• Beware,  Black Sunday could happen all over again!
• Let it go, LB.  Let it go!
• Whitey's in the house.
• "I used to would listen and not interrupt.... I used to be so long lean and tall....But once is enough"
• It's not always about if you stand or fall, but instead about how you stand or fall....
• I almost drowned when I was in the 4th grade.  Actually I was pushed into the water.  I didn't get over my fear of the water until seven or eight years later.  But the reason I bring this up has nothing to do with water or swimming.

January 2002

1/27/02 2:28am
• "They say that these are not the best of times, but they're the only times I've ever known...."
• Does time alone change everything or does it simply enable change?

1/26/02 9:59pm
• Happy Birthday, Patrick!

1/24/02 10:39pm
• People have lucky pens, shirts, even rabbits feet. Lucky stones are cool, too.  But not if it's a stone that they've passed.  That's just plain nasty.
• In the course of a lifetime the only thing that will define you is your actions.

1/23/02 10:46pm

1/19/02 9:06pm
• Tick, Tick, Tick....

1/17/02 12:01am
• Beyond fable, fairy tale, fantasy and myth lies fact.  Undisputable non-fiction cold hard facts.  Face it, without facts...Game shows could not exist. Among other things.
• Happy Birthday Tony!
• I saw my archenemy today. He mocks  me:

1/16/02 12:03am
• Ahh yes, the family that drinks together....Got me?  They probably get stoned together too.  End of comment.
• You can only be outside looking in for so long....  Eventually you have to walk away or go inside.
• Today's wake up song:

• Should I?
• I thought someone kissed me, but I think it's just a clever marking scam.
• Song of the day: I was going to put a cover done as a tribute to one of the greatest punk bands ever, but then I figured there's nothing like the original:

1/14/02 3:15am
• Blast from the past 2002?

1/14/02 2:35am
• Here's a little song that still makes sense after all this time....well at any rate...it's the only thing that seems to make sense right now:

/11/02 1:50a

• X$: There will be days when your world shakes itself up, destruction flies about and knocks you down like Winona Ryder making a break for the Saks Fifth Avenue exit with her "five finger" discounts.  This kinda thing happens time and time again.  But once you get back up and shake yourself off, take a look around look to see who's there.  Chances are, your going to be surprised.  Trust me.
• Now go on, you've got plenty to do today!
• And no, that's not a coding error.  It's a  joke.
• No song today.

1/10/02 12:01pm
• The only thing that is truly infinite is the combinations of ways we assemble our finite supplies.  And yes I mean that in a metaphoric way.
• Sometimes you know when your going to run out of something and sometimes it catches us by surprise.

1/09/02 12:01am AU
• I'm not sure why, but for the moment, I have everything I need.  Nothing like where last Tuesday's saga left off, but it's more than enough.

1/08/02 10:31am

• I hate winter.
• I hate winter.
• Did I mention that I hate winter?

12/31/01 11:59pm - 1/01/02 12:01am Auto Update
• So we come to the close of another year.  And what did you do with yourself?
• I’ve traveled over 4000 miles on motorcycle trips, biked over 700 miles and flown to both coasts…a few times...watched the sun rise three times on three different seasons (and set, too)...clutched my way through more than a weeks worth of triple digit days (and without the papers to prove it)...toasted new beginnings and lamented old endings... It’s things like that I’ll remember…moments we’ve stolen when life wasn’t looking...as the rest of the world went through the motions of just another day.
• There are over 525,000 minutes that make up a year.  Even after we take away the time spent sleeping, working (or going to school), and doing other unmemorable things there are almost 170,000 minutes left2 to make something out of.
• The New Year will press on and history will be made.  Heroes will fall and nations will stumble.  Make and take what you can…
• While thinking about all these minutes I decided to make a Flash presentation of some minutes of my year.  I had grand plans of an impressive multimedia presentation that would knock your socks off.  But it’s hard to get motivated on cold winter days (even if it is warm in my dungeon) so instead I decided to make a presentation that would  knock my socks off.  Then I realized, “Hey, my socks are already off" and that really took the  pressure off. So in the end I settled for this little slideshow instead. {Click Here}  It’s not much; some of the memorable moments in my 2001, but of course not all of them.  I could write about the best ones here, but hey, those are just for me…. Happy New Year! (even to the 33)

December 2001

12/27/01 3:03am
• Anna and the King?  Yea, I'm still laughing my ass off.
• And that disturbance in the force? Not since Easter, sometime late in the last century.
• I woulda figured that more people woulda have found Faith by now.  No more clues.
• Life is indeed a long walk home, Janina.

12/26/01 1:23am

• There is a disturbance in the force.  A presence I've not felt since...

12/25/01 2:37pm
• Took Grandma to the senior center for dinner.   I sat across from Aunt Edna's twin sister (from the movie Vacation.)
•  It's funny how older people are so much like little kids, more so than  just on the surface but in the way they revel in the simplicity of it all.

12/25/01 12:54am
• Merry Christmas!!
• Why are there so many people on the interstate tonight?
•
• Grandma's tree is lit, but she's not.
• If your still looking for answers to the questions you've been asking yourself all these years, consider where the questions came from.

12/24/01 12:01am
• Santa Claus is coming to town.
• ...It's a hymn to the grace that's found a place in you Could I look into a book and find the answer there?Or do the angels prearrange an eye for what is rare? And would the prize anaesthetize the ache that....

Who's dreaming of a White Christmas?

12/21/01 11:39pm

12/21/01 12:53am
• Only in the dark can you see your true reflection.
• It's the season for miracles...

12/19/01 5:26pm
• LOTR was great.  If you read the book.
• I saw mommy kicking Santa Claus.
• About root beer:

• Sassafras contains the chemical known as safrole which is has been shown to be a carcinogen in laboratory animals and has been banned by the US Food and Drug Administration. Some commercial varieties of root beer use artificial flavoring agents, other varieties use sassafras extract from which the safrole has been removed. Removing safrole from sassafras extract and verifying that it is safe is a task which is beyond the ability and equipment of most homebrewers.
• Many home brewers use commercially produced root beer extracts for flavoring their root beer, because these extracts do not contain safrole. Homebrewed root beer is usually sweetened with table sugar (sucrose), and is usually carbonated by adding yeast. Yeast-carbonated root beer contains a small amount of alcohol. Bottles of yeast-carbonated root beer may explode if allowed to ferment too long.

12/18/01 7:14pm
• "The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
    And whither then? I cannot say." -- J. R. R. Tolkien
• But perhaps I can say tomorrow

12/18/01 1:01am
• Walk the line with some grace, say it wasn't a race...
• Sleep and gain, Wake and lose.
• 25 up, now 15 down.  But I have a plan, there is a new Krispy Kreme near work. A dozen glazed for lunch everyday should get me back on track.

12/17/01 1:15am

•
Perhaps the reason I didn't really argue back then is because I agreed with her.  Months later with the chance meeting with a ghost from the recent past opens my eyes to the cold hard truth.  The irony of Little Blue being right is that I can't tell her, and of course if I did it may rapidly disprove her theory.  Kind of like figuring out in a given situation it's best to keep your mouth shut.  If you tell anyone it's best to keep your mouth shut your not really keeping your mouth shut are you?
• I don't know if I will ever bet the farm again.  The older I get the less I gamble.  Keeping the collapsed barn is safer than gambling it away, at least I know it's still going to be there.   Perhaps the truly desperate have gambled their hope away, and not just simply lost it.  Ok, no more about hope this year.  It's hopeless anyway! Oh the subtle irony of my dime store wit!
• "I'm too tired for sleeping.......I'm too wounded to hurt."
• I will not build a house of cards.  I will  not build a house of cards. I will not build a house of cards.... Hmm. Unless I glue them together.  I don't have any glue, do you?

12/5/01 12:01am
• Desperation is defined as "the loss of hope."  Yet when one performs an "act of desperation," aren't they hoping that act will succeed?  Sometimes you hear or read about people that have lost hope or perhaps have "a look of despair."  Even though hope fades and hopes are shattered, I have a hard time believing that people ever really lose hope.  As time goes on their hopes change and become more & more simple.  Hope and dreams are not the same, by definition hopes are more realistic.  Further discussion of dreams will be held after the holiday season...

12/4/01 9:23pm
• Why did I let my subscription lapse? Joanie Laurer.
• Well even though the day at the track ended early for us, James still got the racing out of his system though the twisty roads of Sonoma and route 1.  Good thing he finally got the tires to break loose on the rental car.  I think.
• Got to see Lil 'Sis at  Vesuveo's!
• I did think the west coast would be different, but of course that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.  And thanks for reminding me LS.  On the other hand let me know if you make any progress.
• You can't do everything by yourself.  More information always helps.

12/1/01 5:42pm(PST)
• Stinging sideways icy rain at 35mph wind gusts.  California?  It was nicer in Kenosha.  But at least I didn't have to drive the trailer across three blizzards to get here.  Replaced a fuel pump in the pits but it wasn't enough to get the race car going.  The ignition system didn't like the rain and our day ended early.  We were still soaked and freezing, but it was fun working on the car during the pit stops.
• And what does she want?  Hope to find out Wednesday...

• West is calling and I'm certain the rain will fall.  I could be wrong...even if I'm not I have been told, "Rain is the great equalizer."
• I tend to think more figuratively: If hope is the opiate of the masses, then sorrow is the burden of the masses and, perhaps, the equalizer of humanity.  It makes for great theater anyway....or at least great television (were there such a thing).
• Faith, Hope, Destiny and Despair. Coming soon to an infrastructure near you...(and/or me.)
• A word of advice for the recently aging:  When you try to explain a technology long since gone (records, tapes, handwriting, etc.) to someone much younger than you, don't fool yourself into thinking you appear smarter by doing it in a condescending tone.  They are only asking for their own amusement anyway.
• It's been over  a year since I won a game of Shanghi Rummy. Grandma, have mercy on me.

11/16/01 1:01am
• People love to build "a house of cards".  Is it because they have nothing else to work with?  Perhaps.  It's a funny process really.  Most of the time they know they're working with cards.  Sometimes they don't.  Higher and higher they build, keeping everyone else at a distance so it doesn't collapse.  Kind of ironic, since it's not really about who knocks it down so much as  watching it fall.  Oddly enough, the house suffers but the cards don't.  Most people use the same cards to build another house.
• Glue is not the answer.  Bricks are, preferably Lego™.
• Dominos are are a completely different story.  I need less sleep to think about that.
